Before Nitrous Oxide Anesthesia
- You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, drive the patient home, and be with them the rest of the day. IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a legal parent or legal guardian.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with low-heeled shoes.
- You may bring an ipod to listen to music during the surgery. Many patients find this helpful.
- Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
- No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
- You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, drive the patient home, and be with them the rest of the day. IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a legal parent or legal guardian.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with short sleeves, and low-heeled shoes.
- Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
- Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, nail polish or acrylic nails on the day of surgery.
- No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 – 48 hours following the intravenous anesthesia experience.
*If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office as soon as possible.
*If you take routine oral medications, please check with Drs. Cassara and Jarvis prior to your surgical date for instructions.
